On September 13, 2026, PTSC Mechanical & Construction Co., Ltd. (PTSC M&C) was awarded the EPIC-1 Package under the Maydan Mahzam Redevelopment Project by QatarEnergy, Qatar’s national energy company. Also referred to as the Maydan Mahzam 1 Project (MM1), the package is scheduled to be implemented from Q4 2026 through the end of 2031.
With an anticipated contract value exceeding USD 3 billion, MM1 is the largest project ever awarded to PTSC M&C in terms of overall scale and volume of work. This milestone highlights the capabilities of Vietnam’s oil and gas technical services sector and demonstrates the ability of Vietnamese contractors to undertake multi-billion-dollar projects in international markets.
Maydan Mazham Advancing Production at the Maydan Mazham field
QatarEnergy plays a leading role in managing and developing the country’s energy resources. As part of its strategy to modernize infrastructure and improve production efficiency, QatarEnergy is undertaking a production enhancement program for the Maydan Mahzam field, one of Qatar’s oldest offshore oil fields, which has been producing since 1965.
After more than six decades in production, output from the Maydan Mahzam field has shown a declining trend. With a target of sustaining production at approximately 25,000 barrels per day, QatarEnergy is implementing a field-wide production enhancement program. This includes constructing new production platforms, upgrading existing ones, expanding the pipeline network and adding equipment. MM1 plays a central role in this program.
PTSC M&C secured MM1 through a competitive tender against leading international contractors from South Korea, China and India. The award demonstrates the international competitiveness of PTSC and PTSC M&C, while helping raise the profile of Vietnamese contractors. The project also provides a significant impetus for business growth and strengthens PTSC and PTSC M&C’s position and reputation as main EPC/EPCI contractors for large-scale energy projects, contributing to the realization of PTSC’s Sustainable Development Strategy.
A Historic Milestone for PTSC M&C
Under MM1, PTSC M&C has been awarded the role of EPCIC main contractor, with overall responsibility for engineering, procurement, fabrication, transportation, installation, hook-up and commissioning of eight new structures with a combined weight exceeding 100,000 tonnes. The scope also includes brownfield modifications, tie-ins and integration with existing facilities.
The main structures are shown in the schematic below and comprise:
- Central Processing Platform (CPP) PS2K
- Utilities and Living Quarters Platform PS2L
- Riser Platform PS2R
- Wellhead Platform MMI06C
- Bridge system, bridge support structures and related facilities
Maydan Mahzam Field Layout
Despite its scale, MM1 builds on capabilities and experience PTSC M&C has developed through previous projects. The topsides of the PS2K Central Processing Platform weigh approximately 19,000 tonnes. By comparison, PTSC M&C is currently executing a gas Central Processing Platform weighing up to 26,000 tonnes. Other elements, including offshore brownfield modification works, also draw on the Company’s practical experience across previous projects, including international projects and projects in Qatar.
Strengthening Vietnam - Qatar Energy Cooperation
Building on the successful execution and handover of several projects in Qatar as main contractor since 2018, MM1 marks a new milestone in bilateral cooperation, more than three decades after Vietnam and Qatar established diplomatic relations on February 8, 1993. The project also aligns with the November 2024 Joint Statement, which identified energy, including oil and gas, as a priority area for cooperation.
Beyond its commercial significance and demonstration of international competitiveness, the award of a large-scale EPCIC contract in Qatar to a Vietnamese company is expected to promote investment cooperation in the energy sector between Vietnamese and Qatari enterprises.
Value created through PTSC and Petrovietnam's Internationalization Strategy
MM1 represents an important step in the international expansion strategy of PTSC and the Vietnam National Industry–Energy Group (Petrovietnam). PTSC M&C’s execution of a large-scale, technically demanding project in Qatar helps strengthen the presence of Vietnamese companies in the international energy market. It also creates further opportunities for domestic technical capabilities, fabrication resources, project management expertise and supply chains to participate in global energy projects.
Beyond the economic value of individual projects, the internationalization strategy pursued by PTSC and PTSC M&C also contributes to exporting Vietnamese expertise, technical know-how and management capabilities; generating foreign-currency earnings for the country; and creating stable employment for thousands of workers. It enables workers to continue applying their expertise on subsequent projects. These outcomes link international competitiveness with tangible benefits for employees and the economy. They align with ESG objectives being advanced across the oil and gas sector and contribute to economic growth alongside social welfare.
